Walking for health is about feeling good physically and mentally. However, for a lot of people, (including me) this involves shedding a few pounds. While I am cautious about weight loss as a metric because of all of the reasons somebody’s weight might change, burning fat usually results in weight loss even if it is not pound for pound. So what is the best exercise to burn fat? Well, I am excited to bring you today’s article because I am not going to answer your question. Instead of researching what the experts have already published, I reached out to Team RH who was super enthusiastic about helping me get my message out.
Who Are Team RH To Me?
I began following team RH on social media a few years ago after watching one of Richie’s live videos. While I did not give it too much thought at the time, more and more live videos ended up on my feed and I was impressed with every single one of them.
Richie tells it like it is, he does not hide his frustrations at the misinformation that is out there and goes out of his way to debunk myths about exercise and calories using science. While these videos made me pay attention, Richie is not the only member of Team RH pushing out good video content. Richie’s other half, Rachael takes point on several workout videos and recipe ideas which apparently, need to be prepared while you are moving your body.
Another thing that impresses me about Team RH is how much you can get for little or no money. I personally benefitted from the information they were giving away for free on Facebook and that was enough for me. However, even though Team RH has been an online presence since before lockdown life made a lot of us less active, it was lockdown that caused a friend of mine to decide she would pay for support, and to this day she is super happy with the plan.
So before I stop typing and let Team RH do some talking, I would just like to say that I do not have an affiliate relationship with Team RH and I am not promoting their work to make money for them or me. I reached out to Team RH because I love their honest commitment to helping people in a way that is accessible to all. I am promoting the work of Team RH as I believe that the information they offer can and will help people whether you pay them or not. However, subscribing to the paid plan will ensure your support is personalized.
I invited Team RH to contribute to my website and thankfully they loved the idea and volunteered to write an article about why walking is the best exercise to burn fat. So without further ado, here is what Team RH had to say…
Why Is Walking The Best Exercise To Burn Fat
“Quick-fix diet and fitness plans are everywhere, and quite frankly, for anyone wanting to lose weight and maintain it, these methods will probably end up being a waste of your time and money.
When beginning a weight loss journey, it’s important to understand that you don’t need to overhaul your whole diet, cut out certain foods or complete a specific exercise regime in order to see results. What many fitness instructors, personal trainers, and gym owners don’t tell you is – all you need is steps!
What About The Gym?
Gym anxiety is real, and for many individuals, the fear of being judged based on fitness level, appearance, or knowledge of equipment is a huge barrier to getting active. As a result, these individuals feel like they can’t lose weight as they don’t have access to the tools required to succeed.
However, all you need to do in order to lose weight is to maintain a caloric deficit. Put simply, that means burning more calories than you consume on a daily basis. If you’re eating a healthy balanced diet and are actively upping your daily step count, you will begin to see weight loss as long as your calories burned are greater than calories consumed.
Walking is a great way to maintain your overall health. By doing at least 10,000 steps each day, you can improve cardiovascular fitness, strengthen bones, build muscle and reduce body fat. Walking can also reduce your risk of developing health conditions such as type 2 diabetes, osteoporosis, and some forms of cancer.
You can reap the benefits of walking from the comfort of your home – for example, walking on the spot in front of the TV still counts towards your overall step count. Walking outdoors can be a great way to get fresh air and vitamin D, plus it’s also been shown to improve concentration and reduce stress.
Boost Your Intensity As Your Fitness Increases
If you’re looking to boost the intensity of your walking workouts, there are a number of methods you can try. For example, increasing the distance, time, or pace of your walks or incorporating inclines through hills and steps.
Of course, gyms and fitness classes are great ways to exercise, however, it’s important to educate people who don’t feel comfortable in these environments that this is not the only weight loss solution. Fitness instructors, personal trainers, and gym owners should be spreading the message to individuals who aren’t ready to hit the gym, that walking can kick start your weight loss journey in exactly the same manner as a gym class can.
So, if you’re looking to get active and burn fat – it’s time to smash out some steps. Plus, unlike many other forms of exercise, walking is absolutely free and doesn’t require any special equipment.
